In 2003 Saint-Petersburg - the last capital of Russian Empire and the Northern capital of present Russia - will celebrate its 300 anniversary. Vladimir Putin, the president of the Russian Federation is the chairman of the Committee of the celebrities, which is of national status.
A calendar of anniversary events is being formed at present time. All the celebrities are to take place during the whole 2003. That gives an opportunity to create a unified complex tourist product, attractive for the tourists, both during the anniversary and the following years.
Moreover, a wide range of anniversaries of historical towns and cities, besides Saint-Petersburg's one, will take place in 2003. Staroya Ladoga - the first capital of Ancient Russia - will celebrate its 1250 anniversary. Pskov - one of the most ancient Russian cities, record of which refers to 903, will celebrate its 1100 anniversary as well. Petrozavodsk, the capital of Karelia, the port of four seas, is the coeval of Saint-Petersburg and will also celebrate its 300 anniversary in 2003.
